I like to give locals the money first rather than the big companies, but sometimes I will use these services. I'm so excited for your adventures. Self defense will really give you confidence and help you if you get in a sticky situation. Enjoy the journey!

I’m sorry for what happened with supir bajaj in Jakarta.. It’s not just foreigners/tourist, even for Jakartan people like myself, bajaj was such a rob. Consider next time to just use Uber or Grab (same like uber). Or if you need more advice to travel in Jakarta or some other city in Java you can contact me. Thank you for your tips as a female solo traveler. I’m still a newbie, but I’m doing just the same as you in my first solo travel, but not learning self defence yet. I’m thinking to take Aikido

Wow great post about the scams. We have to be really careful when going to different countries. So many take advantage of foreigners.

Generally we did ok in Asia but also fell for the Great Wall bus scam like One Modern Couple did. Taxi drivers are notorious everywhere and demanding meter was the way out of it. The Indian tuk tuk drivers inspired us to use Google Maps more and more during our travels. It’s closed my arse…!!!

Excellent tips! It is a little frightening to think that this goes on so much. My biggest tip for this is go with your gut. If it feels wrong or too good to be true, then it probably is!
