Ha! What a charming post. As an American (who has a selfie will ol’ Bill at that – no joke), I would have been so incredibly amused to see this. To speak to your question. I struggle to connect with a country via the “main attractions” that are often major tourist traps. The Eiffel Tower, meh…. Big Ben… yawn…. (sorry, I know you’re British).

These mini adventures, within your adventure are the moments that I live for while traveling. No matter how small, like having a dinner and great conversation with a local, eating a simple meal in a local’s home, or a 10 yuan tour into a Chinese man’s house. These are the things that I cherish and what I think will keep me moving forward in my personal journey as an amateur world traveler.

This post was hilarious, and super heartfelt. I'm glad that you're so upfront about whether or not you connect to a place - usually people are so happy to blindly call everything "amazing" just for the sake of travelling. The Bill Clinton thing tickled me - as did this sentence: "10 yuan and all will be revealed." The smallest things can turn around a negative experience. Can't wait for your Taipei travels!
